Academy of Sciences and Arts, Belgrade
The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) is the foremost academic institution in Serbia, renowned for its contributions to both scientific and artistic endeavors. Its origins trace back to the Society of Serbian Letters, established in 1841, which evolved into the Serbian Learned Society in 1864. This evolution culminated in the establishment of the Royal Serbian Academy of Sciences on November 1, 1886, by law. The Academy merged with the Serbian Learned Society in 1892, inheriting its members, responsibilities, and cultural significance.

The Academy orchestrates numerous scientific research projects and fosters international cooperation to advance knowledge and cultural heritage.
The SANU building, completed in 1924, is an architectural blend of academic style and Art Nouveau, designed by Dragutin Djordjević and Andra Stevanović. It houses the SANU library, one of Belgrade's richest libraries, the extensive SANU Archives documenting Serbia's history, and the SANU Gallery on the ground floor. Additionally, the building features a bookstore and an antique shop, further enriching the cultural landscape of Belgrade.
SANU has been a prominent member of the international academic community since 1919, continuously influencing the scientific and cultural domains in Serbia and beyond.
