Antique Car Museum, Fort Lauderdale (must see)
The Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum contains the largest collection of Packard automobiles and memorabilia in the world. For this reason, it is often referred to as the Packard Car Museum.
The museum was established by Arthur Stone. A lover of Packard automobiles, he purchased his first in 1948 and began collecting so many of them that he found a museum was necessary in order to have a place to house them. Stone continued working at the museum daily until his death in 2010.
The museum includes a Packard vehicle from each year that the company was in production. Among the automobiles are a 1915 delivery truck, a 1909 speedster with kerosene powered headlamps and a 1948 station sedan "woodie."
Those who plan to stop at the Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum are encouraged to call ahead. Though the museum is open to the general public, it often closes for special events.
