Arboretum-Heempark Delft, Delft

Arboretum-Heempark Delft, Delft

The Arboretum-Heempark Delft is located in the Delftse Hout nature and recreation area in the municipality of Delft.

The Arboretum-Heempark is a combination of an arboretum and a botanical garden. The construction was intended by the city council as compensation for the urban expansion at the time. At the end of the sixties, people wanted to create a refuge for displaced plants and animals. And give city residents the opportunity to gain knowledge about nature and nature conservation through the park.

Mostly exotic trees and shrubs have been planted in the arboretum. The roses, apples or cherries and ornamental cherries are often grouped by gender and the conifers are also grouped. The trees and shrubs can also be compared well in this way for use in your own garden.

The heme park shows the specific environments with the trees, shrubs and plants that originally occur or occurred in the region. The soil was adapted for this during construction. There is, for example, an atrophied berm with sand, a peat slab and a forest area enriched with lime.

The policy is aimed at maintaining and expanding the diversity of native and exotic trees, shrubs and plants. To serve the public, name plates have been placed at many trees and shrubs. Volunteers from the Arboretum-Heempark provide guided tours and from the adjacent nature education center De Papaver, the park is often used for teaching children.
