Arkas Art Center, Izmir

The Arkas Art Center in Izmir is a remarkable cultural institution that showcases an extensive collection of artworks. Housed in a two-storey building completed in 1906, the center offers a unique experience for art enthusiasts. The establishment of the Arkas Art Center was driven by the personal interest and professional approach of Lucien Arkas, the Chairman of Arkas Holding. He aimed to share the Arkas Collection, a notable assortment of artworks, with art lovers and the wider community. This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering cultural appreciation and engagement in Izmir.

The center's building holds historical significance, as it occupies the sea-facing part of the French Honorary Consulate building. Since 1875, this architectural gem has been considered one of the most beautiful structures in Izmir. In a gesture of cultural exchange, the French Government granted Arkas Holding a 20-year lease to utilize the building for cultural and artistic purposes. Following a meticulous year-long restoration process, the Arkas Art Center officially opened its doors in November 2011, offering a renewed space for artistic expression.

The Arkas Art Center proudly distinguishes itself as the first art center in Izmir to exhibit the works of many renowned international painters.
