Atakule Tower, Ankara
Atakule stands tall at 125 meters (410 feet) and serves as a prominent communications and observation tower situated in the central Çankaya district of Ankara. It is considered a key landmark of the city, thanks in part to Çankaya's elevated location, allowing the tower to be visible from most parts of the city on clear days. The tower's design is credited to architect Ragıp Buluç, and construction took place between 1987 and 1989.
The upper portion of the tower features an open terrace and a revolving restaurant known as Sevilla, which completes a full 360-degree rotation in one hour. Above Sevilla, there's another restaurant called Dome, which doesn't revolve and is positioned directly beneath the cupola. Below the terrace, there's a café called UFO. The lower sections house a shopping mall and numerous indoor and outdoor restaurants. On October 13, 1989, the tower was inaugurated by President Turgut Özal.
It's worth noting that in Turkish, the term "ata" translates to "ancestor" and is often used as a nickname (Ata) for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey. The word "kule" in Turkish means "tower."
