Atwater Market, Montreal

Atwater Market, Montreal

Atwater Market has been an intrinsic part of Montreal right from when it came into existence in 1933. Visit this popular market where you will find a number of restaurants, Premiere Moisson Bakeries and butchers.

Also known as the Farmer’s Market, Atwater Market is situated in Montreal’s Saint-Henri area. Outside the market, you will find a number of stalls where farmers sell imported as well as local produce. You will also find a wine shop and two cheese stores here. Bargaining is strictly not encouraged but you can be assured of quality.

Architect Ludger Lemieux and his son Paul Lemieux designed the unique Art deco of the building. Close to this market lie the Green Avenue, Lionel-Groulx Metro Station and Lachine Canal. This market is frequented by bike riders predominantly due to the easy access provided to them.

The market is connected to Saint-Patrick Street by a pedestrian bridge used mainly by cyclists. The bridge also connects Atwater Market to a bicycle path that leads to the other side of Lachine Canal.

Around the market, especially to its east and west, you can find a number of upscale condominiums. Do not miss a visit to this wonderful market to experience the very essence of the city on your trip to Montreal.

Why You Should Visit:
In addition to fresh produce, this market offers more in the way of "shelf goods" that tourists can buy and take home. In addition, there is an excellent Premiere Moisson bakery.

Tip:
Come to visit over the weekend instead of weekdays, since you'll have more options. A walk along the Lachine Canal just nearby will certainly add up to a great day!
