Bab Riafa (Gate of the Rifians), Fes
This gate is situated in the southern wall of the walled corridor constructed by Moulay Hassan in the 19th century to connect Fes el-Jdid with Fes el-Bali. While it could be associated with Fes el-Jdid, its precise location places it within this walled corridor.
Formerly, the site housed a garrison post or small kasbah that accommodated troops from the Rif mountain region in northern Morocco, hence the name "Gate of the Rifians". Today, a modern gateway stands at the location, allowing passage for a main road, Avenue de l'UNESCO.
Nearby, one can find the Jnan Sbil Gardens and the Royal Palace.
