Ball Arena (formerly Pepsi Center), Denver
The Ball Arena, formerly known as the Pepsi Center, is a prominent multi-purpose indoor arena located in Denver. Positioned on Speer Boulevard, a key thoroughfare in downtown Denver, the arena is easily accessible via two nearby exits off Interstate 25, with a light rail station conveniently located on the western side of the complex.
Opened in October 1999, the arena serves as the home venue for several major sports teams, including the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL, and the Colorado Mammoth of the NLL. The Ball Arena was constructed to replace the McNichols Sports Arena and occupies a 4.6-acre site, with groundbreaking having occurred on November 20, 1997. In addition to the main arena, the complex includes a basketball practice facility for the Nuggets and the Breckenridge Brewery Mountain House, a restaurant that is accessible both from within the arena and from the outside.
One of the notable features of the arena's architecture is the atrium, which houses a suspended sculpture that captures various athletes in action poses from hockey and basketball. Before the 2013–14 season, the arena underwent a significant upgrade with the replacement of its original octagonal scoreboard. The new scoreboard, which is four-sided and rectangular, features two larger center faces measuring 27 by 48 feet and two smaller end faces measuring 21 by 25 feet.
The arena was originally named the Pepsi Center, with naming rights held by PepsiCo from its opening until 2020. On October 22, 2020, the naming rights were acquired by Ball Corporation, a Broomfield-based company, as part of a global multi-year agreement with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE). This partnership made Ball Corporation the exclusive "sustainability partner" of the arena, with all KSE-owned sports teams and venues, including Ball Arena, committing to reduce plastic waste by switching to recyclable aluminum products by 2022.
