Bergen Cinema, Bergen

Bergen Cinema, a prominent cultural hub in Bergen, is situated at the heart of the city, making it a central spot for movie enthusiasts of all ages. The cinema comprises two key multiplexes: The Concert Palace (Konsertpaleet) and Magnus Barfot, both located within a short stroll from Torgallmenningen Square on Neumanns gate. Collectively, these venues house a total of 18 cinema theatres.

The Concert Palace stands as the larger of the two complexes with 13 halls. It is part of the Bergen Kino chain, which also includes the Bergen Kino LUX multiplex. The latter, recently upgraded and reopened in October 2023, now features a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos sound system across its five theatres, which are furnished with 550 luxurious recliners. This renovation underlines Bergen Kino’s commitment to providing a cutting-edge cinematic experience, catering to today’s demanding audiences.

Magnus Barfot Cinema Centre, named after the adjacent street which pays homage to 11th-century Norwegian monarch Magnus Barefoot, serves as a key venue for the Bergen International Film Festival. This complex, designed by Grieg Arkitekter and inaugurated on October 1, 2004, includes five theatres spread over five floors, accommodating a total of 1,060 seats.

Bergen Kino prides itself on a diverse film selection, committing to showing 50% non-American movies annually. The cinema also hosts several film festivals throughout the year, including the well-regarded Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF) in October, the Bergen Ser Festival in February, and Cine Latino in March, further establishing its role as a vital player in promoting film culture in Norway.

The installations and upgrades, especially the recent inclusion of Alcons audio systems, underscore Bergen Kino’s dedication to meeting the high expectations of modern audiences, making it a leading destination for film lovers in the region.
