BIT Teatergarasjen (BIT Theater Garage), Bergen

BIT Theater Garage (BIT Teatergarasjen), located in Bergen, serves as an institution in the production and co-production of international contemporary theatre and dance. Established as a festival in 1983/84 by theater studies students in Bergen, it transitioned to an all-year programming theatre in 1990. The foundation Bergen International Theatre moved into Theater Garage on Nøstegaten in 1991, which became its primary venue until 2008 and inspired its name, BIT Theater Garage.

The institution emphasizes fostering international co-productions and collaborations across different artistic fields. BIT Theater Garage is renowned for its commitment to presenting groundbreaking performances in theatre, dance, and performance art, alongside facilitating discourse related to these arts. The programming is balanced, featuring approximately 50% theatre productions and 50% dance productions, reflecting its dedication to both disciplines.

Instead, it primarily works with established companies to bring diverse and innovative performances to its audience.
