Capilla de la Paz (Chapel of Peace), Acapulco

The Ecumenical Chapel of Peace, commonly known as the Chapel of Peace, is situated atop El Guitarrón hill, which surrounds Acapulco Bay in Guerrero, Mexico. This chapel hosts religious weddings for couples of various faiths and stands at an elevation of 402 meters above sea level, making it easily visible throughout the port. Next to the chapel, there is a 42-meter-high cross and a bronze sculpture of two praying hands.

The chapel's origin traces back to Mrs. Milly Hauss de Trouyet's dream of having a spiritual sanctuary on the Las Brisas Residential Club grounds, a place she personally chose. Although she passed away before seeing her dream come true, her husband, Carlos Trouyet, fulfilled her wish.

In 1967, a tragic airplane accident claimed the lives of the Trouyet brothers, Jorge and Carlos Jr., during their flight back to Mexico City due to mechanical issues. Carlos Trouyet, a key figure in creating the Las Brisas neighborhood, initiated the chapel project in collaboration with architect Gabriel Chávez de la Mora. The construction was supervised by architects Jorge Madrigal Solchaga and Santiago Greenham Ballescá, resulting in the Ecumenical Chapel of Peace.

The chapel's lower level is the final resting place for the Trouyet brothers and their parents, Milly Hauss de Trouyet (1969) and Carlos Trouyet (1971). In 1970, sculptor Claudio Favier created a pair of praying hands as a tribute to the Trouyet siblings. On December 24 of the same year, the illuminated cross next to the chapel was first lit.

Ceremonies in the chapel must conclude by 6:00 PM as it lacks artificial lighting, aligning with the sunset, which adds to the chapel's peaceful atmosphere.
