Casa Castelvi (Castelvi House), Asuncion

Casa Castelvi (Castelvi House), Asuncion

Originally known as Casa Serra (Serra House), the Castelvi House, built in 1804, is a notable example of colonial architecture. Constructed by José Castelvi, a Catalonian who served as the vice mayor of Asunción, the house retains many of its original features, including doors, windows, window bars, and a portion of its floor. This pre-Franciscan residence is situated 15 meters from the street and is accompanied by an external garden that integrates seamlessly into the urban area.

Today, Castelvi House houses two exhibition rooms named after Juan A. Samudio and Domingo Martínez de Irala, showcasing local history and art. The house also features a playroom for children. The garden, known as Patio Arecayá, is named in honor of the Arecayá Indian rebellion and is used for various outdoor activities, enhancing the building's role as a community space and cultural hub.
