Central Park, Delhi

Connaught Place's Central Park, a delightful 41,500 square meters venue, has been a cherished hub for cultural events and a favored hangout spot for locals. In 2005 the park underwent a remarkable transformation when it was reconstructed to accommodate the Delhi Metro station, Rajiv Chowk, beneath it. Serving as a crucial interchange for the Yellow and Blue lines, Rajiv Chowk stands as one of the network's largest and busiest stations.

This beautifully landscaped park boasts an abundance of trees and shrubs, including year-round flowering plants, while its charming ambiance is accentuated by twinkling lampposts and four tranquil water bodies, including a cascading feature. Enhancing its appeal, a 350-seat amphitheater was also established, providing a platform for various cultural activities.

Throughout the year, Connaught Place becomes a vibrant center for numerous cultural events hosted in its Central Park area. Events such as the Urdu Heritage Festival, One Billion Rising demonstrations, Delhi Government's Youth Festival, Awam Ki Awaz (Voices of People) concert, and more, grace this lively venue, captivating visitors from near and far.

Central Park has historical significance as it witnessed the first instance of an Indian patriot hoisting the tricolor flag. Padma Shri Mir Mushtaq Ahmad, Delhi's first Chief Executive Councillor, annually raised the flag on 26th January even during the pre-independence era when Connaught Place was at the heart of imperial British India. In 2014, the park hosted the largest Indian national tricolor at that time, measuring 90 by 60 feet (27 by 18 meters) on a 207-foot (63 meters) tall pole. Though it's now the second largest, the spirit of pride and patriotism still echoes in the park's cherished history.
