Central Park, Perth
Central Park is a tall office tower standing 51 stories high, reaching a height of 226 meters (741 feet) from its base at Saint Georges Terrace to the roof, and 249 meters (817 feet) to the top of its communications mast. Completed in 1992, it held the title of the tallest building in Perth at the time and remains the ninth tallest in Australia.
Constructed with a combination of steel and concrete, Central Park features setbacks in its design, meaning the upper floors are smaller than the lower ones. Outrigger trusses at the top and various setbacks help reinforce the building against strong winds. The building's base includes a small park, which gives the tower its name.
Technologically advanced for its time, Central Park boasts "fully computerized air conditioning" utilizing data from sensors on each floor to regulate temperatures efficiently. Its upper floors offer stunning views of Kings Park and the Indian Ocean.
Construction began in 1988, with Bruechle Gilchrist & Evans, a firm from South Perth, serving as project engineers. The tower was built using a modular approach, with floor slabs pre-cast off-site and then fitted into the steel frame as construction progressed. The addition of its communications mast marked the completion of major structural work in 1992.
