Centro Colombo (Colombo Shopping Centre), Lisbon
Lisbon's largest shopping center resembles a self-contained town, boasting an impressive array of amenities. With over 370 shops, 65 restaurants, and ten cinema screens, it offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. Well-known brands like FNAC, Timberland, Sports Zone, and Toys "R" Us have a presence here, while the top floor features fast-food outlets and a themed dining area called the Lost City ("Cidade Perdida"), adorned with a jungle motif. In addition to these offerings, the center includes a nursery, chapel, health club, golf driving range, bowling alley, funfair, and an outdoor garden.
The mall's architecture and interior design draw inspiration from the Age of Discovery, a significant era in Portugal's history. The squares and hallways within the complex bear names evocative of the Elizabethan era, such as "Avenue of the Discoveries" and "Tropic of Cancer Square". Between 2007 and 2009, the interior underwent a complete renovation, blending contemporary concepts with the original themes.
The Towers of Colombo, initially planned as an integral part of the center, faced delays due to an embargo imposed by the Lisbon city council. The legal dispute was eventually resolved, allowing construction to commence in 2007. The first tower, named "Torre Oriente" (East Tower), was completed first, followed by the "Torre Ocidente" (West Tower) in 2011.
