Centro Cultural Provincial (Provincial Cultural Center), Malaga

The MVA Provincial Cultural Center in Malaga is a historic and cultural hub located in a building with centuries of history. Originally established as the "Children of Providence Hospital" by the carpenters' guild in 1573, the structure has undergone numerous transformations and expansions over the 17th and 19th centuries. In 1983, Malaga’s provincial council repurposed the space to honor the 1927 literary generation, and by 1995, it evolved into a comprehensive cultural center housing the cultural services of the council and the Generation '27 Library.

Renamed the Maria Victoria Atencia Provincial Cultural Center in 2014, in recognition of the celebrated Malaga poet Maria Victoria Atencia, the center honors her literary contributions. This recognition coincided with her receipt of the Queen Sofia Prize for Ibero-American Poetry.

Spanning 3,000 square meters across four floors, the center offers a variety of well-defined spaces for cultural activities. Designed with a central axis connecting two access points on Parras and Ollerías Streets, the latest renovations by architect Luis Machuca Santa-Cruz blend historical preservation with modern functionality.

The center features the Ibn Gabirol Assembly Hall, seating 286, two temporary exhibition halls, a conference room, workshops, and the Old South Printing House. It also houses the Cánovas del Castillo Library, the Library of the Women's Center, and the Generation '27 Cultural Center, further cementing its role as a bastion of cultural enrichment in Malaga.
