Cerro Lambare (Lambare Hill), Asuncion

Lambare Hill, situated on the banks of the Paraguay River within Asunción's urban landscape in the Jukyty neighborhood, rises 136 meters above sea level. This volcanic rock formation is notable as the highest point in Asunción. At its peak rests the Victorious Peace Monument, reminiscent of Spain's Valley of the Fallen, commissioned after Paraguay's dictator Alfredo Stroessner encountered the Francoist structure.

Designed by Juan de Ávalos y Taborda, an architect associated with Franco, the monument features a statue of an Indian chief, possibly Chief Lambaré, clutching a small image of the Virgin Mary. Adorned with historical Greek engravings, and some suggest Masonic symbols, the monument is crowned with a majestic angelic figure. Surrounding the hill is a modest forest, and from its open viewpoint, visitors can admire both the monument and the natural beauty that envelopes it.
