Salesforce Tower, Indianapolis

Salesforce Tower, Indianapolis

The Salesforce Tower stands as the tallest building in the state of Indiana and a defining feature of the Indianapolis skyline. Originally envisioned as American Fletcher Tower, the building has undergone several name changes, including Bank One Tower and Chase Tower, before becoming the regional headquarters of Salesforce in the late 2010s.

Completed in 1990, Salesforce Tower reaches a roof height of 701 feet (214 meters), crowned by twin spires that extend the total height to 811 feet (247 meters). Of its 48 floors dedicated to office and retail space, the top two floors are reserved for building equipment. While the twin spires are of equal height, only one functions as a transmission antenna; the other serves as an architectural flourish.

The tower was designed by KlingStubbins and built by the local firm Huber Hunt & Nichols, reflecting a thoughtful integration of design and functionality. Its stepped pyramidal cap pays homage to the Indiana War Memorial, located three blocks to the north. This connection underscores the historical resonance of its architectural inspiration, referencing the ancient Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.

Given its height and strategic positioning, the roof of Salesforce Tower was specifically engineered to house communications relay equipment, generating additional revenue for the building's owners. The rooftop has also served as a high-visibility canvas for city pride, with banners supporting local professional sports teams like the Pacers and the Colts occasionally displayed on its north and south sides.

As the regional hub for Salesforce, the tower has been reimagined as a modern workspace while retaining its iconic presence. Occupying a significant portion of the building, Salesforce has infused new life into the structure, ensuring its status as a vital part of Indianapolis's business ecosystem.
