Since 1982, City Lights Theater Company has been a vital force in San Jose’s cultural landscape, offering bold, thought-provoking live theater in an intimate and engaging setting. With a 100-seat venue located in the heart of downtown, the company produces a season of six plays each year, carefully selected to spark conversation and ignite the imagination. Known for its innovative concepts, uncompromising storytelling, and close-knit staging, City Lights invites audiences into powerful theatrical experiences that challenge both heart and mind.

Beyond its mainstage productions, City Lights is committed to developing new voices in theater. Its New Play Readers Series and Lights Up! annual podcast series spotlight fresh scripts and emerging talent—some of which find their way into the company’s regular season. The organization also hosts the Lights & Music Concert Series, further expanding its artistic reach.
