Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh (CAM Raleigh), Raleigh

CAM Raleigh, short for Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh, is a vibrant and dynamic contemporary art gallery located in Raleigh. Unlike traditional museums, CAM Raleigh does not have a permanent collection. Instead, it focuses on presenting ever-changing exhibitions featuring works by artists of regional, national, and international acclaim. The museum prides itself on seeking out the most cutting-edge and contemporary art and design, and its mission is to curate these works in a way that continuously offers visitors a fresh and evolving experience.

Established in 1983 as the City Museum of Contemporary Art, CAM Raleigh is a unique collaboration between the College of Design at North Carolina State University and a private 501(c)(3) organization. This partnership allows for a dynamic blend of academic rigor and artistic innovation. The museum relocated to its current home in 2011, a beautifully repurposed 1910 warehouse in downtown Raleigh, providing a spacious 20,000 square feet of exhibition space. The adaptive reuse of the facility was carried out by the acclaimed architectural firm Brooks + Scarpa, creating a visually stunning environment for the display of contemporary art.

CAM Raleigh has showcased an impressive roster of artists in its diverse exhibitions. Some notable names include Angel Otero, Marilyn Minter, Heather Gordon, Leonardo Drew, Sarah Cain, Dorian Lynde, and Jonathan Horowitz. These artists represent a range of styles, mediums, and perspectives, ensuring that visitors to CAM Raleigh are exposed to a rich and varied artistic landscape.
