Corniche (Promenade), Casablanca (must see)
The Corniche is a five mile seaside promenade from the Hassan II Mosque to the Ain Diab neighborhood. The promenade has rest areas, walkways, sports areas and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. It is designed to be in harmony with its environment, inspired by the classic Islamic garden, with its tiers of progression from city to seashore.
One can have a pleasant walk, enjoying a panorama over the ocean while on the land side are innumerable restaurants, clubs, Art Deco buildings and luxurious villas. On the sand beach are enclosed salt water pools; not to worry about a heavy surf or rip tides.
The proposal challenge for competing designs for the Corniche was to turn "18 kilometers of dilapidated waterfront into a respite destination for citizens." The response was to propose a "resilient system" based on the concept of "the Arabian garden." Swerving layers of serene gardens penetrated by thresholds leading to the beach. It worked.

Casablanca Old Town Walking Tour
Although the Old Town (Medina) of Casablanca is not as ancient as that of the imperial cities like Fez or Marrakech, it is well worth seeing all the same. The historic heart of the city, rather modest in size – measuring some 50 hectares, is made up of three parts: the Medina proper; the Jewish quarter, or Mellah, with the Ettedgui Synagogue in it; and the popular quarter called Tnaker.
