Cotton Bowl, Dallas
The Cotton Bowl was built in 1930 and was known as Fair Park Stadium at that time. It replaced the wooden stadium that had been Fair Park Stadium. The stadium was built to hold 45,507 spectators and was home to area high school football games as well as college games. In 1936 Fair Park Stadium became known as the Cotton Bowl.
In 1948 it was time to add more seating. The new maximum seating capacity was increased to 67,000. 1949 saw another increase in capacity to 75,500. A huge overhaul and renovation was again done in 1994 which increased seating capacity to 92,000.
Over the years the stadium was home to football games, baseball games, and soccer matches. Besides sporting events, the Cotton Bowl was also host to several other events, most notably rock concerts. Several rock videos have been shot at the venue as well. Even the Dallas television show shot some scenes here.
Cotton Bowl Stadium no longer hosts the Cotton Bowl Classic. That game in now played at Cowboys Stadium and has been since 2010. There is still plenty of life left in this stadium however, so be sure to check the schedule of events when in town. The stadium is located at 1300 Robert B. Cullum Boulevard.
