Cube Microplex, Bristol

Cube Microplex, Bristol

The Cube Microplex is a non-profit cooperative cinema and event venue. Since opening in 1998, it has hosted diverse artistic and cultural events, including films, music performances, and community initiatives. The venue has a 108-seat auditorium and a bar offering local and ethical products.

The Cube holds over 350 events annually with an average attendance of 1500. It showcases a variety of films, including mainstream, art-house, and local productions. Special screenings are organized for mothers and babies. The venue also features stand-up comedy nights, classic/cult comedy film screenings, movieoke evenings, and weekend live music performances.

The Cube collaborates with local and international artists, hosts festivals, and rents the space for third-party events. It embraces an anti-corporate ethos through initiatives like Cube-Cola, an open-source cola project, and Feral Trade, which sources products through personal social networks. The Cube even formed its in-house improvising orchestra, the Orchestra Cube.

Notably, The Cube has organized temporary cinemas in unique locations such as a tin mine in Cornwall. They have also brought open-air cinemas to children in post-disaster locations like Haiti (after the 2010 earthquake) and Nepal (after the 2015 earthquake).
