Dallas Fire Fighter Museum, Dallas

Dallas Fire Fighter Museum, Dallas

The Firefighters Museum is located in the building that used to be the old No. 5 Fire Station for the Hook and Ladder Company. The building was constructed in 1907, and was state of the art at the time. It is also associated with the Texas Fire Museum and the North Texas Historical Society.

When you visit, you will be able to see a great collection of old fire trucks. For instance, you can see “Old Tige” which is an old horse drawn steam pumper that was in use in 1884. It was named after the Mayor of the city at that time, W.L. Cabell, as well as a ladder truck from the 1930s.

Kids love this location. They get a chance to imagine themselves as firefighters by being able to actually get on an old fire truck. There is also over one hundred years of history and apparel here to see. You can examine the old helmets, uniforms, and equipment of the day, as well as learn about the history of fighting fire in Dallas. They also do fire safety lessons. You may also want to visit the gift shop for a great present for the kids.
