Deutsches Verpackungs-Museum (German Packaging Museum), Heidelberg

A former 19th-century church in Heidelberg's Old Town has been converted to house this fascinating documentation of packaging and package design of brand-name products. Covering the years from 1800 to the present, the museum features historic logos and slogans that take you on a nostalgic journey, showcasing styles from traditional to avant-garde. Special exhibitions are dedicated to specific packaging themes, highlighting the brand and design history of various companies and their products.

While most cities have typical history museums, this place is unique, quirky, and fun. You'll find all the basic information you need on the subject here, such as the common history of packaging, materials used in different periods, and modernist design, with interesting exhibits spread across about four average living room-sized spaces.

A walk through the exhibition takes about an hour—just the right amount of time. Plus, the lovely garden in the courtyard is available for breaks.
