Dilli Haat Bazaar, Delhi (must see)
Dilli Haat is an open-air bazaar run by Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation which houses a variety of food stalls and stores selling craft items. The bazaar was established to encourage artisans and craftsmen from all over India and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their talents. You can buy precious stones, carved stone pieces, silk products, jewelry, leather goods, wood works and many other items here, as well as relish cuisines from all states of India.
Spread over six acres, the bazaar has thatched roof kiosks and raised patios. There are more than 60 stalls in Dilli Haat bazaar selling various items. You can find silver jewelry from Orissa, leather slippers from Maharashtra, bronze sculptures from South India, wooden puppets from Rajasthan and much more. Some tourists spend a whole day exploring the stalls and choosing exclusive and interesting artifacts.
Why You Should Visit:
All areas of India showcased in one place. Not the cheapest place to buy crafts from different states but certainly the most convenient.
If looking for a place to shop & eat in Delhi, with less pressure and no hawkers, and where you're likely to meet other travelers, this will do.
Tip:
Make sure you walk all the way in and check out all the stores before getting carried away at the first store you see at the entrance.
Definitely haggle down the prices (20-40% off the asking price is a given) as they are higher than average and you also pay to get in.
Save some time to explore the performances as well! The costumes and music from different tribal states are highly entertaining.
