Dique de Tororo (Tororo Dam), Salvador

Nestled in the heart of Salvador, this scenic spot once encircled the city's capital from the Barbalho Fort to the Fort of Saint Peter. Over time, urban expansion led to parts of the dam disappearing, buried under landfills.

Originally a reservoir, the dam underwent a complete makeover in 1998, transforming into one of the city’s signature landmarks—a lush, recreational haven. With security guards, a children’s playground, a fitness area, rowboats for rent, restaurants, and, most impressively, sculptures of orixás seemingly floating in the green waters, it’s an attraction that’s not only easy on the eyes but soothing to the soul. And if you’re lucky (and have a sharp eye), you might even catch some friendly little ducks gliding through the water.

The dam’s perimeter is a popular spot for morning jogs, evening strolls, and even nighttime exercise sessions. With bathrooms and drinking fountains scattered throughout, it’s equipped with all the essentials. Families will especially appreciate the designated play areas for kids, while couples can enjoy a quiet, romantic chat surrounded by nature. The abundant greenery creates a peaceful, light atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding.

One of the standout attractions is the lagoon, adorned with striking Orixá sculptures by artist Tati Moreno. For followers of Candomblé, the dam is a sacred site where offerings are made to the orixás, believed to be spiritual deities representing forces of nature (e.g., water, wind, fire, earth), and revered for their guidance and protection.
