Egan Convention Center, Anchorage
The William A. Egan Civic and Convention Center, or simply the Egan Center, stands as a key hub for Anchorage’s gatherings, events, and exhibitions. Situated on West Fifth Avenue in the heart of downtown Anchorage, this 45,000-square-foot convention center was built in 1984, taking over the former site of the Z. J. Loussac Library. Named in honor of Alaska’s first governor, William Allen Egan, the center’s design by CCC Architects and Planners embraces a blend of steel and curved glass that floods the reception area and striking indoor ficus trees with natural light.
The Egan Center boasts a flexible space with several key areas: the grand Explorers Hall, a 19,306-square-foot, column-free space, comfortably accommodates up to 1,536 banquet guests or trade shows with 132 booths, and it can be subdivided into three halls for smaller events. Meanwhile, the versatile Summit Hall on the lower level offers 11,228 square feet, divisible into up to 14 separate rooms with customizable configurations.
Anchorage locals and visitors alike can explore both traditional and contemporary Alaskan art displayed in the lobby, including a unique bead sculpture, Eskimo spirit carvings, and wood pieces by artist John Hoover. In recent years, a $5 million upgrade has equipped the Egan Center with modern amenities, ready to host everything from intimate family gatherings to large-scale conventions. With a skywalk connecting it to the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, the Egan Center stands as a cornerstone of Anchorage’s convention facilities, offering a warm and inspiring space to experience the heart of Alaskan community life.

Anchorage Historical Buildings
As a perfect basecamp for exploring much of what Alaska has to offer, Anchorage is the font of the state’s history. The Downtown’s convenient grid pattern – compact enough to be walked by curious visitors ready to explore the 49th state's largest and most important city – was set up at the same time as the construction started on the Government Hill neighborhood in 1915.

Anchorage Introduction Walking Tour
Anchorage was settled in 1914 and incorporated as a city six years later. It was named after a hardware and clothing store that was held in a dry-docked steamship nearby. That store was called "The Anchorage." The city holds almost half of the population of Alaska and is one of the largest cities by area in the United States.
