Église Saint-Sauveur de Lille (Saint Saviour Church), Lille

Saint Saviour Church (Église Saint-Sauveur) is a prominent church situated in the Lille-Centre district. The present structure was built between 1898 and 1902 on the site of a previous Gothic church, which dated back to the 14th century and had been a significant landmark in the Lille-Saint-Sauveur district. This earlier church was destroyed by fire in 1896.

The reconstruction of the Saint Saviour Church was led by architect François-Joseph Delemer, who opted for an eclectic and neo-Byzantine architectural style. His design replaced the previous Gothic church and included several preserved elements from the original structure. Among these were the five stained glass windows in the choir by Édouard Didron from 1867, the main altar created between 1879 and 1882, and the altar of the Holy Angels from 1884, located in the northern arm of the transept.

Additionally, the church is home to exceptional oak furniture crafted by local Lille carpenter-sculptor Gustave Pattein. This includes an organ case, a monumental pulpit, and several confessionals. The artwork within the church includes a significant 1732 painting by Lille artist Lamoral de Daudenarde titled "Let the Little Children Come to Me."

The musical heritage of the church is highlighted by its gallery organ, constructed by Belgian organ builder Salomon Van Bever in 1902. The church also housed a choir organ, which has since been relocated to the Notre Dame de Fives church.

The church was officially blessed in December 1902, marking the completion of construction and the beginning of its role as a central place of worship and community gathering in Lille.
