Ekebergparken Sculpture Park, Oslo

Ekebergparken Sculpture Park, Oslo

Ekebergparken Sculpture Park, situated near Ekebergrestauranten, offers both a tranquil escape and a glimpse of cultural heritage. Positioned in the southeastern expanse of Oslo, it provides a panoramic vantage point to admire the city's skyline. The brainchild of property director and art enthusiast Christian Ringnes (born 1954), the Sculpture Park is a realization of artistic passion. Nestled within 25.5 acres of wooded terrain, this park was officially inaugurated on September 26, 2013.

Upon its unveiling, the park boasted an ensemble of 31 sculptures, many of which celebrated the essence of women. The ownership of the park resides with the City of Oslo, while the sculptures are curated under the wing of the Christian Ringnes-founded institution, the C Ludens Ringnes Foundation. This establishment reached its pinnacle in February 2015, complete with well-worn trails, reflective water surfaces, and a minimum of 25 strategically positioned sculptures. At the outset, an allocation of NOK 350 million was designated to procure additional sculptures, potentially amassing a grand total of 80, and to manage the park's operations for a span of at least five decades.

In close proximity to the sculpture park, Lunds Hus, a stately white villa dating back to 1891, houses an indoor museum. The museum, accessible daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., delves into the history and natural splendor of the Ekeberg region. Adjacent to this, an art and design emporium offers a selection of books and design articles, further enhancing the visitor experience. Lunds Hus serves as both a historical relic and a cornerstone of the Ekebergparken Sculpture Park.
