Estadio Luis Frazini (Luis Franzini Stadium), Montevideo

Luis Franzini Stadium (Estadio Luis Franzini), an outdoor football stadium located in Montevideo, is a prominent sporting venue with a rich history. Named after Luis Franzini, a former president of Defensor Sporting and the Uruguayan Soccer Commission, the stadium serves as the home ground for Defensor Sporting. Franzini, who presided over the club for several periods between 1925 and 1962, is a revered figure in Uruguayan football.

With a maximum seating capacity of 16,000, the Luis Franzini Stadium underwent significant renovations in 1997, reopening in 1998 as the Nuevo Estadio Luis Franzini. These renovations included an increase in seating capacity and leveling of the playing area, addressing the previous westward slope toward the Rio de la Plata.

Located in Rodo Park (Parque Rodo) at the intersection of Herrera y Reissig and Sarmiento Streets, the stadium stands on municipal land. It has played a crucial role beyond sports, hosting a massive student demonstration on September 25, 1983, which marked an important milestone in the fight against Uruguay's military dictatorship.

The stadium's excellent conditions have made it a favorite venue not only for local matches in the Uruguayan Championship but also for international competitions such as the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. It has seen the highest number of international broadcasts in recent years in Uruguay. Moreover, it has hosted the finals of local tournaments and other sporting events, including two significant rugby tournaments: the South American Rugby A tournament in 2003 and the Intercontinental Cup in 2004.
