Falckensteiner Strand (Falckenstein Beach), Kiel

The Falckensteiner Beach is an approximately 2 km long bathing beach in Kiel (in the districts of Kiel-Pries and Friedrichsort) on the west bank of the Kiel Fjord / Baltic Sea. The Falckensteiner beach stretches from the Friedrichsort lighthouse (located on an island) to the north and ends at the border with the Kiel-Schilksee district. It is the longest bathing beach in Kiel and a popular local recreation area. The guarded beach, free of tourist tax, is developed by a youth hostel, restaurants, playgrounds, toilets and offers the opportunity for water sports (windsurfing, catamaran sailing, scuba diving). A special feature is the busy shipping traffic from and to the Kiel Canal and the port of Kiel, a few hundred meters from Falckensteiner Beach. The name is derived from Fort Falckenstein (demolished in 1919), which was located there (on the Brauner Berg) to secure the fortress Friedrichsort.

The longest beach in Kiel: Fine sand with breathtaking views of the most beautiful cruise ships and ferries that pass by so close you can almost touch them.

The Falckensteiner beach in Kiel-Friedrichsort has a wide sandy beach with coastal dunes and beach ridges. In the south, a dyke protects the hinterland from flooding. In summer, the beach, which is then visited by the fjord steamers, is particularly popular with families, as there are distinct shallow water areas on the shore. The beach is supervised. Because the fjord is very narrow here, the ships pass impressively close to the beach.

There is the High Spirits high ropes course, a beach volleyball court, the Minigolf und Mee(h)r mini golf course with a free children's playground, the Westwind SUP and surfing school and the TSG Submarin diving club. There are public toilets on Falckenstein Beach near the mini golf course and at the level of the high ropes course (round toilet). ***PH***
