Galaxy Bar, Athens

Galaxy Bar, Athens

Here's another well-kept shopping arcade secret: Galaxy. This delightful vintage establishment, which made a name for itself in the 1970s, was considered exceptionally modern at the time, thanks to its authentic American-style stand-up bar. Conveniently located and offering a stellar array of spirits and cocktails, it has a real speakeasy vibe and is widely regarded as one of the finest bars in Athens.

Galaxy has its own subculture in Athens; over the years, it has served as a sanctuary for the city's intellectual elite, including journalists, writers, and the like. They have frequented this establishment in search of common ground, and despite the changes that have occurred in the downtown area, they have all remained fiercely loyal to their beloved bar. Naturally, this has created a sense of cultural distinction, and the old-school cocktail culture that Galaxy embodies may give the impression of exclusivity. However, nothing could be further from the truth – a visit will quickly dispel any misconceptions.
