Galeria Plakatu (Poster Galery), Krakow

The Poster Gallery (Galeria Plakatu) in Krakow is a famous global hotspot for poster enthusiasts. It attracts a diverse audience, including young and old visitors like students and scholars, both from Poland and abroad. Collectors are especially drawn to it. This venue is a must-visit, prominently highlighted in popular international guidebooks about Poland and Kraków.

Established by Krzysztof Dydo in 1985, the Kraków Poster Gallery has forged a distinctive identity as the sole gallery in Poland exclusively devoted to Polish promotional and commercial posters. Over time, it has evolved into a hub for artists and enthusiasts captivated by the realm of poster art. Since 1994, the Gallery has transitioned into private ownership, helmed by Krzysztof Dydo and Ewa Pabis.

At the heart of the gallery's appeal lies a curated collection comprising around 2,500 poster titles, conceived by close to 200 Polish graphic virtuosos, painters, and designers. These posters champion a wide array of cultural endeavors, encompassing realms such as theatre, film, music, and literature. However, the gallery's embrace extends to exceptional depictions of social dynamics, sports, and advertising.

Polish posters greatly influenced modern graphic art since WWII, gaining worldwide fame in the 1950s and '60s. This gallery began with the Dydo Poster Collection, starting with around 20,000 pieces and now almost doubled in size. It started during the heyday of the Polish Poster School in the mid-1950s.

Thanks to its expansive holdings, the Poster Gallery has orchestrated over 200 solo and group exhibitions within Poland, and a remarkable count of at least 300 exhibitions spanning across Europe and far-reaching destinations like Australia, Mexico, China, Iran, Canada, and the USA.
