Galileo, Frankfurt
The Gallileo Tower stands in Frankfurt's financial district, just opposite the Eurotower. Its name is inspired by the nearby Gallusanlage Park and the renowned astronomer Galileo.
Constructed between 1998 and 2003, the tower was initially intended to serve as the investment banking headquarters for Dresdner Bank, which has since been acquired by Commerzbank. Other offices of the bank can be found in the nearby Silver Tower. To accommodate this skyscraper, another tall structure called the Zinssertum, erected in 1951, was demolished in 1996. The Gallileo Tower ranks as the 14th tallest building in Frankfurt.
The Gallileo Tower stands at a height of 136 meters and consists of two towers: a 138-meter north tower and a 114-meter south tower, connected by a central core that runs throughout the building's 136-meter height. The tower features a glass exterior with 400 windows, forming a glass skin covering an area of 22,000 square meters. The distinctive reflective floor slabs, designed by American artist James Turrel, create an illuminated effect within the building at night.
For visitors, the tower offers attractions such as an English theater on the ground floor, along with a few shops and a bar in close proximity to the theater.
