George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston
The George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston is a world-class facility that opened its doors on September 26, 1987. It is one of the largest convention centers in the United States, offering a total of 1.2 million square feet (110,000 square meters) of exhibition, meeting, and registration space.
Named after the prominent Houstonian George R. Brown, the center was made possible by his company, Texas Eastern Corporation, which donated six of the 11 blocks required to build the center. Brown was an entrepreneur, civic leader, and philanthropist who made significant contributions to Houston's growth and development.
The convention center is owned by the City of Houston and managed by the Houston First Corporation. Its location on the east side of Downtown Houston makes it easily accessible to visitors from all over the city and beyond.
The George R. Brown Convention Center replaced the outdated Albert Thomas Convention Center, which has since been redeveloped into the Bayou Place entertainment complex in the downtown Houston Theater District. The new center's 100-foot (30 m) high red-white-and-blue building is a distinctive landmark in the area.
The George R. Brown Convention Center offers a range of amenities, including dining facilities, accommodations, and sports and cultural events. It features seven exhibition halls, four conference rooms, a theater, and the famous George Bush Grand Ballroom. The ballroom is a magnificent space that can accommodate up to 3,600 guests and is named after the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush.

Yet, it somehow manages to tower over the stream of engines, with a glittering uber-American presence. There is much to... view more
