Giles, Johannesburg

Giles, Johannesburg

Giles is a highly popular gathering spot situated in the northern suburbs. It has gained a reputation for its lively atmosphere and a fantastic deck that offers stunning views of the Craighall Park valley, especially during sunset. Many liken it to the cozy atmosphere of the "Cheers" bar.

Typically, Giles attracts an upscale crowd, appealing to young professionals, local residents, and sports enthusiasts. The establishment was founded in 1994 by the late Ian Baldwin Gillies and Jennifer Gillies. Following Ian's passing in 2005, their two children, Ben and Kiarin, took over its operation and management.

The pub and restaurant were named after the famous British comic strip "Giles," with a playful reference to the family's surname. Giles was conceived as a traditional English pub, where the community could gather to enjoy each other's company, accompanied by good food and their favorite beers.

The menu, in existence since 1994, has evolved significantly and now offers a wide range of options to satisfy even the most discerning food enthusiasts. Additionally, the wine list boasts an extensive selection, featuring some unique wine estates.
