Handel & Hendrix Museum, London
This captivating museum pays tribute to not just one, but two exceptional musical talents: the classical composer George Frideric Handel and the iconic rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Comprising two interconnected buildings, the museum primarily focuses on the life and contributions of Handel, who resided at No. 25 for over three decades until his passing in 1759.
Within elegantly decorated Georgian-style rooms, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Handel, exploring original manuscripts and admiring portraits. Some of the composer's most renowned compositions, such as "Messiah" and "Music for the Royal Fireworks," were crafted within these walls, which contained a variety of keyboard instruments, including harpsichords, a clavichord and a small chamber organ.
Fast-forwarding approximately two centuries, the upper floors of No. 23 once hosted one of rock music's greatest innovators, Jimi Hendrix, during a brief yet creatively prolific period in the late 1960s. The apartment has been faithfully restored, complete with replica furnishings, fixtures, and décor from Hendrix's prime years.
Tip:
For more information on interactive experiences, like cooking in the newly refurbished 18th-century kitchens, as well as late-night openings featuring live music, please refer to the museum's website.
