Hansa Shopping Center, Malmo
Situated in the vibrant heart of Malmö, just a few steps away from the iconic Gustav Adolf Square, Hansa Shopping Center stands as a symbol of sophistication and modernity. Housed in a building with a unique history, this retail complex blends the city’s industrial past with contemporary shopping experiences. Located on Stora Nygatan, the site was once the home of Malmö Yllefabrik’s old textile factory, Doffeln, before being transformed into a retail destination in the 1960s.
Designed by the renowned Malmö architect Thorsten Roos, the building opened in 1963 as a branch of Nordiska Kompaniet (NK). When NK ceased operations in 1991, the premises underwent a major transformation, reopening in 1992 as Hansacompagniet, featuring around 40 stores. In 2003, a footbridge connected Hansacompagniet to the neighboring Citygallerian, forming a unified retail complex under the name Hansa.
Today, Hansa attracts a diverse range of visitors, offering a curated selection of fashion-forward stores like COS, & Other Stories, Monki, Weekday, and Odd Molly, alongside premium brands such as Gant, HOPE, and Lexington. Whether you’re looking for high-end apparel or trendy everyday wear, Hansa’s boutiques provide a wealth of options.
Hansa also caters to practical needs with stores like Apoteket and Systembolaget, the latter featuring a specialized wine cellar. For dining, the mall offers a delightful assortment of eateries, including the popular Oh Poke Restaurant and the well-known Espresso House Café, perfect for enjoying a quick snack or a relaxed meal with friends.
The mall’s three-level parking garage, accessible from Malmborgsgatan, ensures that visitors can easily access the shopping center by car. With its impressive mix of retail, dining, and services, Hansa Shopping Center is not just a place to shop, but a destination that reflects the dynamic spirit of Malmö itself.
