Hanuman Mandir, Delhi
Hanuman Mandir situated on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Connaught Place is one of the must see tourist attractions in Delhi. This mandir was built in the year 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh. Since then the Mandir has survived the attacks of numerous armies. Right from the time of its construction, the mandir has undergone numerous renovations and has become an important religious landmark in Delhi. The self created or swayambhu Hanuman idol in this temple represents the lord in his childhood days. He carries Gada, a weapon in one hand and his other hand is placed on his chest.
The main gate of the temple is embellished with artwork that depicts the story of Ramayan in its entirety. The main mandap ceiling features beautiful paintings representing scenes from Ramcharithramanas, written by the then great poet Tulsidas. You can view the verses of Sunderkand from Ramcharithramanas engraved in marble below the paintings. The temple is thronged by devotees on Tuesdays and on the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanthi.
Hanuman Mandir is not only a sacred place, but is also renowned for mehendi, which is a tattoo made of henna. You can find many mehendi artists outside the temple who delight tourists by etching intricate designs on their palms.
