Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was formerly known as the Trump Taj Mahal. It is a magnificent establishment that underwent a remarkable transformation under the ownership of Hard Rock International. Inaugurated in 1990 by the former U.S. President, Donald Trump, this lavish casino and hotel was conceived at an astonishing cost of nearly US$1 billion.
The Trump Taj Mahal was not merely a gaming destination; it was a culinary paradise boasting a plethora of original restaurants, including the famous Hard Rock Cafe, Sultan's Feast, Dynasty, Il Mulino New York, Moon at Dynasty, and Robert's Steakhouse. It even had the distinction of housing Scores, the nation's pioneering in-casino strip club.
However, in 2014, the Taj Mahal faced a precarious future as its parent company grappled with financial turmoil. It narrowly escaped closure thanks to the intervention of Icahn Enterprises, which assumed ownership. The challenges continued when, in 2015, the Taj Mahal admitted to "willfully violating" anti-money-laundering regulations for an extended period, resulting in a staggering $10 million fine, marking the highest penalty ever imposed by the U.S. federal government against a casino.
Despite these trials and tribulations, on March 1, 2017, a new chapter of revitalization began as the Seminole Tribe of Florida, through its revered Hard Rock International brand, in collaboration with the Morris and Jingoli families, announced their acquisition of the facility. This heralded a remarkable transformation, culminating in the rebirth of the venue as the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. On June 27, 2018, the doors of this rejuvenated entertainment haven swung open to the public, a day earlier than anticipated, ushering in a new era of excitement, luxury, and world-class entertainment.
