Hwa Kor San Temple, Melaka
Hwa Kor San Temple, nestled in the eastern part of Melaka, near the Shree Ambaji Temple, is a significant Taoist place of worship known for its striking incorporation of Malaysian architectural elements. The temple was founded in the early 1970s by the late Mr. Charlie Lim Eng Swee, a person of Peranakan descent from Melaka. His vision was to create a sanctuary that not only served the spiritual needs of the community but also assisted the needy and fostered a deeper commitment to Taoism and a belief in God.
Originally, the temple began its journey in an old wooden residence owned by the Lim family. As the temple's community grew and the need for a more substantial structure became apparent, it was relocated to Taman Kota Laksamana. This move happened three generations after its founding, signifying the temple’s growth and the enduring dedication of the Lim family to their ancestral legacy and religious mission.
Today, Hwa Kor San Temple remains under the care of the Lim family, continuing to serve as a beacon of faith and charity in the region. It attracts devotees and visitors not only for its religious significance but also for its beautiful design and the serene ambiance it offers to those seeking spiritual solace.
