Iglesia de San Pablo (St. Paul Church), Cordoba

Saint Paul Church is a notable church and former convent located in the historic city of Cordoba. It was constructed on a site that was once home to a Roman Circus, followed by a Muslim palace, and then a Dominican convent built by Almohad Christians. The church is a prominent landmark in the city and is situated on one of the main access roads leading into the city.

The church was built in the Baroque style and is made of marble, with construction dating back to 1708. The main facade of the church features the Mannerist style of the 16th century. Inside, there are three naves that are divided by pillars covered with coffered Mudéjar ornamentation. The church has three apses, circular on the inside and rectangular on the outside, with a quarter-sphere dome and a central pentagonal vault. The tower is located at the foot of the church and is made of stone, with a wooden bell tower on top.

The church's interior boasts several notable features, including a pointed flaring arch with caliphal capitals in the nave of the Gospel. In the nave of the Epistle, there is an old door with Gothic-Mudéjar style. There are also several chapels, including the Chapel of the Madonna del Rosario, built in the 15th century and renovated in 1758. This chapel is a fine example of Baroque style in Cordoba. Additionally, the church houses one of the most important sculptures of Easter Cordoba, Our Lady of Sorrows, which dates back to 1627 and was created by Juan de Mesa.

The church's former convent is partially preserved, and its remains can be seen embedded in the passage that leads to the Ministry of Culture on Capitulares Street. The chapter house, designed by Hernán Ruiz II, was likely unfinished due to a lack of funds. In 2008, the building underwent extensive restoration and refurbishment as part of an earmark for the cultural area of the city. The Jardines de Orive, which are the former convent garden, can be found nearby.
