Campus Im Neuenheimer Feld (New Campus), Heidelberg
The University of Heidelberg is spread across three campus locations within the city. While the historic university buildings are located in the old town, the New Campus ("Im Neuenheimer Feld") was established in the 1950s on a former agricultural site across the Neckar River, and has rapidly become an internationally renowned center for science and research.
Located in Heidelberg's newest district, Neuenheimer Feld, the campus is now the largest part of the university and the biggest campus for natural sciences and life sciences in Germany. It hosts many buildings for the science faculties and institutes, the medical school, and the university hospital. Additionally, the science branch of the University Library, most dormitories, and the university's athletic facilities are all situated here.
Several independent research institutes, including the German Cancer Research Center and Max Planck Society's Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, have also established themselves on the campus, alongside several biomedical spin-off companies.
