IMAX Cinema, Birmingham

IMAX Cinema, Birmingham

IMAX Cinema in Birmingham, situated at the innovative Millennium Point, has long been a cornerstone for locals and tourists seeking a top-tier movie-watching experience. Officially inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 2001, the cinema initially served as an IMAX venue, offering a blend of educational and blockbuster films in 70mm and 3D formats. The cinema gained fame for its state-of-the-art 72ft wide screen, once the largest in Europe, and was known for immersing viewers in the filmmakers' vision through its detailed remastering process and dual projection system.

In 2011, the facility underwent significant changes when it was taken in-house, rebranded, and retrofitted as The Giant Screen Cinema, focusing exclusively on digital formats and continuing to screen major blockbuster movies. However, The Giant Screen closed its doors in 2015.

As of 2022, the space at Millennium Point has transitioned to an events venue while still hosting a schedule of event-based film screenings. IMAX continues to promise the most immersive cinema experience with its vast, specially treated screens and a perfectly tuned sound system, offering films in both 2D and 3D formats that captivate and engage audiences with breathtaking audio and visual fidelity. Whether it's action-packed blockbusters or heart-warming narratives, IMAX at Millennium Point remains a premium destination for extraordinary film experiences.
