Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis

The Indiana Convention Center is a cornerstone of Downtown Indianapolis, renowned for its scale and adaptability. Established in 1972, the facility has undergone five major expansions, evolving into one of the largest convention centers in the United States. Spanning over 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 square meters) of rentable space, the center offers 71 meeting rooms, 11 exhibit halls, and three multi-purpose ballrooms. It connects seamlessly with Lucas Oil Stadium, adding 183,000 square feet (20,000 square meters) of exhibit space and 12 additional meeting rooms.

The Indiana Convention Center, originally named the Indiana Convention-Exposition Center, has undergone significant growth since its inception in 1972. The original facility featured a ballroom, three exhibition halls, and 23 meeting rooms spanning 160,000 square feet (15,000 square meters). Over the years, the center has expanded multiple times to enhance its capacity and connectivity.

The Indiana Convention Center boasts 49 loading docks, seven drive-in ramps, and three food courts. Uniquely, it connects to 12 hotels and over 4,700 hotel rooms via skywalks, the most of any convention center in the country. These features make it an ideal venue for large-scale events, accommodating diverse needs with unparalleled convenience.

In September 2020, the Indianapolis City-County Council approved a $155 million expansion, set to include a 50,000-square-foot (4,600 square meters) ballroom and 93,500 square feet (8,690 square meters) of meeting and pre-function space. This project also involves two high-rise hotels, including a Signia by Hilton, expected to open in 2024. Upon completion, the total rentable space will exceed 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 square meters), further solidifying its status as a premier convention destination.
