International Gallery of Contemporary Art, Anchorage
The International Gallery of Contemporary Art (IGCA) in Anchorage is a vibrant cultural space that encourages exploration, bold expression, and the development of fresh artistic perspectives. Originally founded in the early 1980s next to sculptor David Felker’s studio on International Airport Road, IGCA has since grown into a dedicated exhibition venue in downtown Anchorage, preserving its roots in experimental art. Established as a nonprofit in 1989, the gallery continues to support both emerging and established artists by providing a platform where commercial concerns are secondary to artistic innovation.
Monthly exhibitions showcase a range of contemporary works, from thought-provoking visual pieces to immersive installations and performance art. This dynamic approach invites diverse artists from Alaska and beyond, encouraging them to push boundaries and connect with audiences through interdisciplinary expressions. Notably, past exhibitions like the outdoor "FREEZE" installation, featuring oversized ice sculptures on the downtown park strip, exemplify IGCA’s dedication to interactive and unconventional art experiences.
Open to the public free of charge, IGCA offers an inclusive, inspiring environment for art enthusiasts. Visitors can often witness creativity in progress through access to resident artists’ studios, fostering a direct and engaging link between the community and the artists shaping contemporary culture.

That store was called "The Anchorage." The city holds almost half of the population of Alaska and is one of the largest cities by area in the United States.

Anchorage Historical Buildings
As a perfect basecamp for exploring much of what Alaska has to offer, Anchorage is the font of the state’s history. The Downtown’s convenient grid pattern – compact enough to be walked by curious visitors ready to explore the 49th state's largest and most important city – was set up at the same time as the construction started on the Government Hill neighborhood in 1915.
