Jagannath Temple, Delhi

Jagannath Temple, Delhi

In reverence to Lord Jagannath, the Jagannath Temple stands as a significant reflection of the famous Puri temple and holds a prominent position among Hindu religious centers in Delhi, particularly cherished by the Oriya community. Located in Tyagraj Nagar, Hauz Khas, this exquisite temple has its roots traced back to 1969. Originally, the Sree Neelachala Seva Sangh constructed a modest shrine to honor Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra due to limited resources. However, in 1991, the temple underwent reconstruction, culminating in its inauguration on the 28th of January, 1999.

Within the temple complex, visitors can explore a precious library that houses an exceptional collection of religious texts. Additionally, two Prasad halls can accommodate 200-300 devotees simultaneously. Presently, this Hindu temple serves as a significant symbol and cultural center for the Oriya community residing in Delhi.

One of the highlights of the temple is the annual Rathyathra festival, celebrated with great fervor by the Oriya people and others every July. During this festive occasion, it is believed that Lord Jagannath visits his home. Devotees also relish the authentic daily Prasad offerings in a tranquil atmosphere, providing a spiritually rejuvenating experience for those who visit the Jagannath temple in Delhi.

Tip:
The "prasad", served for lunch & dinner at a very reasonable price, is a very good idea for a wholesome meal if you have a taste for Odia cuisine. The stay facilities are another big plus!
