Jardin Botanique de la Bastide (Botanical Garden of Bastide), Bordeaux

The Botanical Garden of Bastide stands as a scientific sanctuary, providing an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in a rich array of plant life, ecological diversity, and the responsible stewardship of natural assets.

Positioned on the right bank of the river within the Bastide district, a mere 10-minute stroll from the Place Stalingrad's Blue Lion, this garden occupies a significant place in Bordeaux's lineage of botanical havens. Established in 2003, it emerges as the freshest branch of the esteemed Jardin botanique de Bordeaux, situated across the flowing waters.

The garden encompasses six distinct zones, each devoted to diverse cultural themes. From expansive aquatic ponds brimming with wetland ecosystems to tranquil pathways adorned with exotic flora, the Botanical Garden at Bastide is a charming setting for leisurely ambles or discovering a hidden nook for clandestine meetings.

Conceptualized by Catherine Masbach, the garden spans an impressive 600 meters in length and 70 meters in width along the Garonne's right bank. This garden is a canvas for innovative displays, curated by the landscape architect, featuring an aquatic oasis, an environmental gallery, cultivated fields, an urban sanctuary, an ornamental circle, a vertical garden, and a communal green space. Within the Botanical City, a space for both permanent and temporary exhibitions, the world of botany unfolds, while also introducing the principles of sustainable progress. The lofty greenhouses extend a warm Mediterranean embrace, welcoming you to explore this unique microcosm.
