Jardines de la Victoria (Victoria Gardens), Cordoba
Victoria Gardens is a public garden in Córdoba located between the Paseo de la Victoria and the Avenida República Argentina. Its name comes from the convent of Nuestra Señora de la Victoria, which was demolished in the 19th century. The garden features two recently renovated structures, the former Caseta del Círculo de la Amistad (now known as Mercado Victoria) and the Music Kiosk, as well as a modernist fountain from the early 20th century. The Pergola, a neoclassical-style structure by architect Carlos Sáenz de Santamaría, has also been renovated and now serves as an exhibition hall and cafeteria bar.
The Victoria Market, formerly known as the Friendship Circle Booth, is a zinc-covered wrought iron structure that was built in 1877 as a fair booth for members of the Friendship Circle. It lacks walls and was used by the Círculo de la Amistad until 1994. In 2004, the Córdoba City Council began the rehabilitation of the structure, which was completed in 2007 and now serves as Mercado Victoria, with a total area of 830 square meters.
The Music Kiosk is a bandstand located in the garden that has recently been remodeled. It is used for musical recitals and performances. The modernist fountain is located in the center of the garden and was built in the first decade of the 20th century using gray marble. It features a circular cup garnished with rectangular pink marble inlays, with a pedestal in the form of an amphora with garlands supported by two reclining figures of atlanteans.
The Pergola is a neoclassical-style structure located in the northern area of the garden, dedicated to the Duke of Rivas. It was completed in 1930 and recently underwent a thorough renovation, currently housing a restaurant and a cafeteria inside. Jardines de la Victoria is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, providing a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in the heart of Córdoba.
